2024 LVAC Members' Exhibition

The annual LVAC Members' Exhibition opens this Friday, October 25 from 7-10 p.m. Come meet friends and neighbours and enjoy the visual art exhibition in the MPS (115 Birmingham). Organized by Moudu Ekhar, the show will continue this weekend from 1-4 p.m., next week (Tuesday-Friday) from 4-6 p.m., and next weekend from 1-4 p.m.


P is for poetry— and pucks!

On Saturday, October 26, LVAC's Peter Norman will introduce award-winning poet (and translator and, formerly, actress, shepherd, and priest) Mia Anderson as she launches her seventh poetry book, O Is for Christmas, as part of the St. Thomas Poetry Series. The reading is at 2:30 p.m. at St. Thomas's Church, 383 Huron St., or you can livestream the event at the link below.

This month also marks the release of Peter's first children's book, a collection of hockey-themed stories illustrated by Chelsea Charles and available now from HarperCollins Canada. One of its stories tells of how NHL stars the Hughes brothers once practised on a frozen tennis court in Etobicoke's Wedgewood Park!

New Toronto library time capsule

Finally, our local New Toronto library branch is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary on Saturday, November 2. To mark the occasion, they're inviting community members to submit short stories, anecdotes, and images to a time capsule, to be housed beneath the library's historic steam bell.

New Toronto 30th Building Anniversary
Please join us as we celebrate New Toronto’s service to the community. Enter for a prize draw, guess how many gummies in a jar, enjoy the refreshments and participate in a drumming program.<br /><br />Community members will be able to submit short stories, anecdotes or images/photos about New Toronto Library or the immediate community to be placed in the time capsule. Due to the size constraints, priority will be given to submissions closely related to New Toronto Library and small enough, not larger than page size 8.5 by 11, to fit inside the capsule. The deadline to submit your work is Saturday, November 2 at 5 p.m.<br /><br />10am - 1pm Activities: Guess How Many Gummies, Prize Draws and Refreshments<br /><br />2pm - 3pm Cuban and Brazilian Drumming. A lovely drumming program highlighting two most infuential countries in music, Cuba and Brazil, both culturally rich in rhythms and songs.
