Parkdale turns out for Artists in Flux

Viewed from the stage, a large group of artists and arts workers fill the pews in a historic neighbourhood church.

It was a pleasure to moderate this event for the Parkdale Residents Association on Saturday, which brought west-end artists and arts organizations together to discuss the impact of gentrification and the housing crisis on their community.

Speakers included members of the Akin Collective, the 1313 Tenants Association and the Triangle Lofts Tenants Association, as well as representatives of the City of Toronto, the Community & Cultural Spaces Trust and Home Opportunities. Most importantly, local artists and their neighbours filled St. Mark's Church to share their experiences and show support for the arts in Parkdale. Many thanks to PRA for organizing!
